Welcome back, everybody!
Hope you had a fun and meaningful holiday season. I most certainly did. After running a series of dating seminars for singles over the Christmas holiday, I was reminded of a very simple, yet important, lesson: All learning comes from listening. It's not that we haven't gleaned a ton from our own experiences, but rather that nothing new can filter in if we think we already know it all. Sharing our experiences can be cathartic, interesting, and even instructive, but until we listen to others, we're not truly learning a thing.
In that vein, please read this month's Online Dating Tip O' the Month. I think it's a particularly useful nugget to start the new year...
Happy reading,
Evan

Just got back from an amazing week at Club Med Turks and Caicos, where I led a series of daily seminars for the 200 singles who attended JDate's holiday getaway. Every day, we touched on a different subject for 90 minutes – online dating profiles, first date techniques, JDate tips, relationship exercises, and relationship coaching. Attendance was good, participation was active, and I was thrilled with the results. I've already been invited back by Club Med for at least three other trips in 2007 and will keep you posted on the dates.
The JDate seminar series provided an excellent trial run for my Learning Annex "Why You're Still Single – and What To Do About It" class in Los Angeles on January 10th and February 12th. If you haven't signed up yet, the first class is on Wednesday, so get on top of it and register now! 310-478-6677.
My next appearance is going to be on Match.com's Happen Magazine for a live chat on Tuesday, January 30th at 9:30pmEST/6:30pmPST. The title of the chat (because every chat needs a title) is "The New Online Dating Rules". I was hoping to call it "SexyBack", but Justin Timberlake threatened to sue. Bastard.
Finally, for the third straight year, I made my fearless predictions to Yahoo! Personals for what's ahead for romance and relationships in 2007. I still haven't won anything for my efforts. Thankfully, even if my ideas are dead wrong, there are about forty other experts listed on Yahoo to pick up the slack. Choose one of them instead. |

The 2007 iDate Conference (yes, we have our own conference!) is taking place in Miami on 1/15-1/16. So if anybody has any suggestions for the industry, feel free to let me know. Representatives from most of the top online dating sites will be in attendance. I would say, however, that they're on the right track this year. Both Match and Yahoo just went through some sizeable redesigns, JDate continues to dazzle with its live events, and companies from LoveAccess to Vintacom have instituted high-end customer service and matchmaking programs. Now all everyone needs is a better profile, photos, email technique and dating technique and we'll be all set...
Finally, if you're a former private client of mine, you should expect to receive a phone call from me in the next few months. However, if you've moved in the past three years and have a different phone number (a distinct possibility, I acknowledge), please email me your new contact information at evan@e-cyrano.com. I want to personally catch up with each and every one of you to learn more about how I can better serve you. |
